The Thomas in Us

I am afraid to risk

I am afraid to die

Afraid to love and serve

Afraid to trust

To dream.

But you might show me the proofs

Give me a way full of rules

Help me to stand apart from my “twin”

And his worldly bent.

I can’t have it all

Not really

The spiritual and the relational

The daily pointing

Of God’s “finger”.

Hearing His thoughts

Doing His works.

But you tried Rabbi

And they killed you.

Convention, common sense

Could never bow down

Before your carpenter trappings

And claim “My Lord and my God”.

Could I?

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
