It’s hard again

And the loneliness

Abrades the skin and soul

I am yours

With assurance I am whole

But not today

The saints seem

All so far away

And claiming victory

Even in the smallest things

While I doubt much

And fear the strokes

That chastening brings.

But Father this is just

Denial of your love

You feel and touch

And timely send your

Rescue from above

Mine to wait and watch

And speak those words

Of timeless writ

Til I see the joy of it.

  1. No, I am not in a down mood today. There have been many days. I note that the people of faith who have impressed me in the most lasting fashion have all gone through several dark tunnels of trial, holding only the constant and loving nail-pierced Hand. His Beatitudes in Matthew 5 point out the lasting riches of temporary refining, hunger, tears or attack. So many times listening to Gospel radio I have thought “Oh no, another song of dark suffering. This will never sell to the unreached.” Then the Spirit says “Hold on Son, the Physician always comes to the afflicted and leaves life-changing comfort, courage and balm while effecting the rescue.” (Doug)
