Fear of the Lord

‘Yep that Jesus was quite the guy. Happy visits around the Lake. Fascinating stories. Assurances of hope. Healing of the afflicted and lonely. Think I wanna be like him. I opt for Christianity. Many in my family did. Now to uncover a Bible believing church. And more of the right kind of friends.’

Is that the way in? BUZZ, BUZZ, HONK, HONK…NOT.

Surgeons use sharp instruments. Disarming idols. Lavishing comforts on the overwhelmed. Breaking the heart with an honest view of Golgotha and the wickedness of men. Searing a conscience with the understanding of past neglect of so great salvation.

We are left despairing of self, and desiring above all else to be found pleasing to the God of angel armies and to His noble and obedient Son. This is fear of the Lord. It is not dread of a bully or harsh judge. It is dread of remaining apart from Him and His smile and light.

Our rescue must be found in the finished work of a bloody cross, an empty tomb and a poured out Spirit.
