Taking Notation on Ephesians

Would you set them down please?

The pens and notebooks

The high-liners

Your duty, your challenge

Is not to scribble

Though everyone around you does

Your duty is to listen

Listen to Paul’s words

And his context

And his spirit of earnest intercession

For eyes and hearts to be opened

To the greatness of God’s power

To us-ward who believe

And the intimate familiarity

And knowledge available

To those who reach up.

You’re still note taking

That you might study the Word better?

Nope, hear it now

Let your hearts be the tablet

Trust the Spirit to bring remembrance.

The “later” is for distribution

To hungry and opened souls.

You treasure this pause in gathering

This “huddle” of the redeemed?

Rather treasure the holier moment

Out there, making disciples.

Serving the hurting.

As Jesus said you would.

And if not, why not?
