Dialogue Near the Heat

young-man-kneeling

So you think

That you’re pretty hot

Saved by the Blood

Led by the Spirit

And all that.

Don’t you hear the snickers?

Remember your work mate

And his crash?

I was in that…easy

Brought up the old habits

Filthy thoughts

The scotch

And that woman

Who didn’t last a year.

And you go to the Book

And yawn

And try several times

For the gist

Of that chapter

Bells don’t ring

The same anymore.

You’re tired and stale.

Is this really

Being in touch with Almighty?

(There is a pause

And a sigh

And some silent

Words lifted up.)

…Devil…you’re a liar

Your time is short

I cast these lousy thoughts

Behind my back.
